LESOTHO Post Bank (LPB) has increased its reach by opening a new branch in Mokhotlong, making banking more accessible for residents of the highland district.

At the launch event, LPB Managing Director Mokhachane Mopeli highlighted the bank’s mission since its inception in 2005: to provide banking services to every Mosotho, whether in towns or rural villages.

He emphasized LPB’s unique position as the only locally owned bank, noting its affordability and commitment to serving all Basotho, especially those who remain underbanked or without banking access.

“Established by the government in 2004, LPB began operating in 2005 to serve the economically active urban and rural populations who previously lacked reliable access to financial services,” Mr Mopeli said.

Reflecting on two decades in the sector, Mr  Mopeli described LPB’s evolution from a savings institution to a full-service retail bank.

Over the years, LPB has introduced personal loans, debit cards, internet and mobile banking, mobile money services, and, most recently, Visa cards. He acknowledged past challenges but asserted that the bank is now stable and encouraged Basotho to support their only locally owned bank.

“We are dedicated to helping businesses grow and encourage you to bank with us to unlock your business’s potential,” Mr Mopeli said.

He reaffirmed LPB’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Basotho through customer-focused financial services and innovation that drive economic growth.

He stressed the bank’s values of integrity, accountability, respect, and courtesy, and promised to protect customers’ interests while providing competent solutions.

Prime Minister Sam Matekane, who officially opened the branch, praised LPB for bringing services closer to the people and urged the community to support the bank as the nation’s only locally owned financial institution.

“To all farmers and business owners, this is your bank. Feel free to come here for loans to grow your businesses. Support the bank that supports you,” Mr Matekane encouraged.
