MASERU — A 16-year-old girl from Ha-Mabote was committed to the Juvenile Training Centre (JTC) by the Maseru Magistrate’s Court after she was convicted of house-breaking.
The court heard that the teenager broke into her aunt’s house at Salang in Ha-Mabote last Wednesday.
She stole groceries and clothes valued at M5 000. She pleaded guilty to the charge and when asked why she stole from her aunt, she said she did not know why. Public prosecutor Thabang Motsamai told the court that this was not the first time the girl had been accused of stealing from her relative.
She said the Probation Unit had recommended that the girl be taken to a government facility where she will be rehabilitated. The court ordered that special and professional help be offered to the teenager, whether social or psychiatric and that she be released when the JTC feels that it is proper and that she is ready.
The case was before Magistrate Masupha Kao. — Lena
