MASERU — Reigning Miss Lesotho Companies Teen, Constance Mofolo, left Maseru for Pretoria on Friday to take part in the Queen of the Universe Teens that begins today.
Mofolo, 17, said the pageant is going to give her a platform to sharpen her skills.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I am very happy,” she said.
“I have always wanted to be a beauty queen so that I can have the platform to encourage young girls to believe in themselves, their beauty and talents.”
She added: “I am looking forward to learning so that I can be able to impart my skills to other young girls, groom them and discuss issues affecting them directly and indirectly.”
Limakatso Makutle, Miss Lesotho Companies organiser, told XpressPeople that Mofolo “is the first reigning queen to represent Lesotho at an international pageant under Miss Lesotho Companies this year”.
Makutle said Mofolo’s participation at the Queen of the Universe pageant is a build-up to Lesotho’s first international beauty pageant Miss International Companies that is billed for the first week of October.
“We are planning to participate in as many international beauty pageants as possible before October so that we encourage more countries to be part of our first international competition.”
Makutle said Miss Lesotho Companies, Little Miss Lesotho Companies and Miss Lesotho Companies Toddler will also participate in other international pageants.
“We will announce in due time where the other girls will be going,” she said.
She added: “Constance will also be going to Turkey in July to compete at the Miss Globe.”
Makutle said Mofolo’s trip will be sponsored by Miss Lesotho Companies.
“We only have local designers sponsoring her with dresses but all that is needed for the competition is catered for by us from our budget,” Makutle said.
The crowning of the Queen of the Universe is scheduled for tonight.
“We are returning on Monday because the crowning is Sunday night,” Makutle said.
