MASERU — Two of the country’s top clubs Matlama and LCS will renew their rivalry when they clash in a premier league tie at Pitso Ground this afternoon.
Despite being fierce rivals, the two sides are on the opposite sides of the league table with LCS lying on second spot whilst their opponents Matlama are second from the bottom of the league table.
Tse Putsoa has had a rocky start to the new campaign as they won only three times in their opening eight league matches.
Mohale Mokoena’s charges will head into this afternoon’s game high in confidence after registering a win and a draw in their last two matches.
However, LCS public relations officer, Kofa Rantai, said his team won’t underestimate Matlama despite their well documented struggles.
“They remain a good side and our boys are well aware that they will have to be at their best to get the three points in today’s match,” Rantai said.
“We are the defending league champions and should show it on the field of play by winning matches against the country’s top sides.
“We just have to keep fighting and winning matches to retain our league title,” he said.
Rantai said the champions will be without newly signed defender Likano Teele for the tie against Matlama.
Another interesting encounter this afternoon will see a clash between former league champions LDF and Likhopo.
Both teams have been inconsistent so far this season. Likhopo were handed their fifth loss of the campaign by LMPS last Sunday.
LDF have experienced better fortunes and is fourth position, three places above Likhopo on the log.
LDF public relations officer, Donny Ntakha, told the Sunday Express that his team should fight for the three points on offer in the clash against Likhopo.
“It is true that we have failed to win the matches we should have won, but it’s not too late to put our season back on track,” said Ntakha.
“We gave a brave fight last weekend coming from two goals down to force a two-all draw against Matlama and have to go all out for a win this afternoon.
Elsewhere, pacesetters Lioli have a tricky game against ninth placed Mpharane Celtic in Teyateyaneng.
Tse Nala has looked solid under veteran mentor, Lehlohonolo Thotanyana, who took over the reins prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.
Pre-season signing Tšoanelo Koetle has been a marvel in the colours of his new team.
The gifted utility player has formed an exciting partnership with midfielder playmakers Bushy Moletsane and Motlalepula Mofolo in the middle of the park as Lioli continues to shine.
Striker Tšepo Seturumane is another who impressed in the colours of Lioli.
The left footed striker is at the top of goal scoring chats having already netted a brace twice after nine league matches for his side.
