MASERU — Lesotho is set to witness a “battle of the DJs” when South African divas DJs Zihle and Black Coffee clash at Durham Link on October 27.The gala, organised by a local entertainment company, Marangrang Holding, will also see local DJs Tseko, Counter Force, Mekonko, Khebza and Kopper, making up the line-up.

“This is the second event we are organising with the aim of bringing exclusive entertainment to the Mountain Kingdom,” Hape Monaheng, from Marangrang Holding, told a press conference this week. He said their goal is to make Lesotho “the best entertainment destination all year round”. The company was instrumental in bringing to Lesotho South Africa’s most celebrated DJ Rocco two weeks ago.

“Unlike other event companies, we are not all about fun but we create short-term employment during these ventures,” Monaheng said. He said their events are meant to motivate aspiring disc jockeys. “The local DJs billed to make the line-up are those that have established their brands and that we use as motivation for upcoming DJs to work hard in making their brands indispensable.

“We have a slot for upcoming DJs and we advise them to always avail themselves to play for free for exposure,” Mohaneng said.He said the event is intended to pull two different crowds. “House music lovers know that both Zinhle and Black Coffee play different types of house music so those for commercial house will enjoy the sounds of Zinhle while those in deep and soulful will enjoy Black Coffee. “It is the festive season and people want to have fun so the fun season has begun,” Monaheng said.

Kabelo Mosotho, from Pioneer Mall, said the shopping centre decided to sponsor the event because “we both share the same vision of making Lesotho the number one entertainment destination”. “We realised they are bringing top-notch entertainment with their first event. We felt they needed our support,” Mosotho said. Mosotho refused to disclose the amount of money Pioneer Mall injected into the event saying, “it’s a confidential matter but as Pioneer we are dedicated to supporting Basotho-initiated projects that are beneficial to the community”.

Teboho Maseela, also from Pioneer Mall said “there will be tight security to ensure safety for the people attending”.
