Women’s Month show cancelled

MASERU — The Carol Bouwer show that was meant to celebrate Women’s Month was cancelled at the eleventh hour on Friday after the South African indicated she would not be able to make it again to Lesotho. The event, dubbed “Celebrating Women of Substance”, was initially scheduled for August 25 at Maseru Sun but had been postponed to yesterday.

“She postponed the first time saying her manager had died and the burial was on August 25, the same day as the event.

“They asked for the show to be moved to September 15,” Thato Pekeche, Pioneer Mall general manager, told XpressPeople on Friday.

“Yesterday (Thursday) they postponed again because she said she was going out of the country. We thought it would be unfair to postpone the event again hence our decision to cancel it.”

Pekeche said they had already paid for Bouwer’s expenses including travel and accommodation. “She has let us down, which is unprofessional. We have gone into huge debts because of this event from bookings to advertisement including fliers and banners which were printed in Johannesburg. We however expect her to pay all our expenses,” Pekeche said. She said they had lost about M80 000 while preparing for the event.

“Over the past three years we have organised the ‘Celebrating Women of Substance’ we have never had to cancel a show and this is bad for our image.

“We are very sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the show. We will refund for all tickets that were bought,” Pekeche said.

Celebrating Women of Substance is an annual event organised by Pioneer Mall to celebrate women during the Woman’s Month in August.

The guest of honour was going to be Her Majesty Queen ’Masenate Mohato Seeiso.
