Lucky ETL winner walks away with Toyota GD6 grand prize

A LARGE crowd gathered in Mafeteng on Friday to witness the handover of a brand new Toyota GD6 to Atang Mphale, the grand prize winner of Econet Telecom Lesotho’s Baso200 campaign. 

The festive atmosphere was filled with deafening cheers, honking horns, whistles, ululation, and booming music, drawing in onlookers curious about the event. 

Lively performances by local artists Omali Themba,?Cityzen Ls, and Ati Zee kept the crowd entertained as they awaited the big moment. 

In addition to the Toyota GD6 grand prize, the Baso200 campaign awarded other prizes,?including M200,000 grand prize won by Marethabile Thakaso of Ha Leqele,?two weekly M10,000 prizes, and various hampers given randomly to Econet customers in attendance. 

The highlight of the event was the announcement of Atang Mphale as the winner of the Toyota GD6, presented by Econet to mark the end of their Baso200 campaign. 

Launched on November 29, 2024, the campaign celebrated Lesotho’s bicentennial by rewarding Econet customers with cash, airtime, and Econet Prime smartphones. 

Rets’elisitsoe Nkhahle, ETL’s Public Relations, and Customer Experience Specialist, expressed his excitement over the Baso200 campaign’s grand prize winner at the event. 

“We are thrilled to celebrate Mr Atang Mphale as the grand prize winner of the Baso200,” Mr Nkhahle said. 

“This campaign had set aside M6 million to be won by our valued Econet customers in daily, weekly and monthly cash prizes, smartphones, airtime and the ultimate grand prize of a brand new Toyota GD6 worth over M800,000. This is a true testament to our commitment to rewarding loyalty and transforming lives.” 

Mr Nkhahle added that Econet had taken the Baso200 campaign to communities across the country through location-based activations, ensuring every Mosotho could participate. 

“This on-the-ground engagement is complemented by virtual activations, leveraging technology to ensure everyone, regardless of location, has access to this opportunity. 

“As the campaign has ended, at least 3,000 Basotho had directly benefited, making Baso200 a truly inclusive and life-changing initiative,” he said. 

Atang Mphale, the grand prize winner of Econet’s Baso200 campaign, expressed his overwhelming joy and excitement. 

“When I received the call that I had won a brand new car, I could hardly believe it. It felt like a dream!” said Mphale. 

“This win means everything to me and my family. As an assistant taxi driver, it will allow me to start my own business and view life differently. It will help us achieve things we never thought possible.” 

Mr Mphale expressed his gratitude to God and Econet and encouraged other ETL subscribers to “support the company as it brings benefits back to Basotho”.
