Moorosi Tsiane
THE Lesotho Baseball and Softball Association (LBSA) has promised fireworks in this year’s Moorosi Softball tournament which is likely to be held during the Easter holidays.
The annual tourney is a baby of the Hlotse Softball Club, Torpedoes, dedicated to sports icon Letlatsa Moorosi.
According to LBSA public relations officer Lisema Mapetla, the tournament was meant to celebrate Moorosi’s life and works in recognition of the huge role he played in the development of Softball in Leribe.
“This tournament is not new and is held in honour of Ntate Moorosi and this year Torpedoes has asked us to help them in expand it by also involving other sport icons from different places so that is what we are working on,” Mapetla said.
“We haven’t decided on the exact dates for this year’s event but we are looking at the Easter holidays. The challenge at the moment is the teachers’ nationwide strike.
“We don’t want to set dates that will clash with the students’ studies because we are hoping to also invite our school teams for the tournament.”
Mapetla said apart from teams from Botswana, which normally grace this event, this year they are also including different local teams and some high school teams.
“Torpedoes normally invite teams from Botswana for the tournament so this year we are trying to grow by inviting other local teams and also in trying to give some of our development teams exposure,” he said.
Mapetla said they have already sent out letters to different corporates seeking sponsorship.
“To stage a successful event, one needs a helping hand and that is why we are also trying to incorporate some corporate sectors asking for sponsorships because we are hoping to have trophies and medals and monetary prizes or at least some sort of softball equipment for the winners,” Mapetla said.
