Umpire awaits world tourney fate

Lesotho Netball Association Director of Development, Chakatsa Lephole, is confident of making the final list of 13 umpires who will be officiating in next year’s World University Netball Championship.

The championship takes place in the American city of Miami from 13-17 July.

The Lesotho Correctional Service goal-attacker told the Sunday Express he was among 36 umpires shortlisted for the Games and remained positive he would make it among the final 13 for the event.

“We were shortlisted last month and we now wait for the final list. That list is going to be unveiled in December, and for some reason, I just feel so positive about this whole thing. I think I am going to make it, with the help of Almighty God, of-course,” Lephole said.

The 33-year-old said his achievements “speak for themselves” and therefore, had nothing to be afraid of.

“I am among the best umpires on the continent and with only three Africans on the shortlist and five African countries being represented in the 12-nation tournament, I stand a great chance of making it,” he said.

Lephole, who also holds an International Talent Identification (ITID) badge in netball, said he was humbled to see the world recognising his contribution to the sport.
