. . . It never rains but pours for Zaly

Staff Reporter

MASERU — It never rains but pours for suspended principal secretary of the Ministry of Communication, Nokhululeko Zaly. Although she was suspended with full benefits the ministry is now moving to cut her fuel allowance. The ministry has also stopped paying the electricity and water bills at her government house in Arrival Centre. The ministry’s deputy principal secretary, Maseqobela Williams, has also informed Excel garage to stop Zaly’s fuel allowance.

Zaly has been using a Toyota Camry (X8897) since June when her Lexus was damaged in an accident. In a letter dated July 31 Williams said Excel must stop refuelling the Toyota Camry with immediate effect. “The reason behind is the fact that the person (Zaly) utilising the said vehicle has been told to return it to the ministry but had not done same even after police were alerted to this fact (sic),” Williams said in the letter to Excel’s manager.

“Should there be any refuelling by your good office after the receipt of this letter, our ministry shall not be liable to pay for such.” The letter was copied to Government Secretary Motlatsi Ramafole who is in charge of all permanent secretaries.

Zaly confirmed yesterday that she is no longer getting her fuel allowance. She said she only heard of the decision from petrol attendants at the filling station.
