MASERU — A 42-year-old man from Liphiring in Mohale’s Hoek is in police custody for allegedly raping a 77-year-old woman from the same village last Saturday.
According to police reports the suspect attacked the victim at night at her home.
Police spokesperson Inspector Thato Ramarikhoane said the woman heard some noise outside her home and went out to check.
When she got out she is said to have found a man who then dragged her into the house.
The woman screamed for help as the man was assaulting her.
Five men in the village heard the screams and came to her rescue subsequently arresting the suspect.
The suspect is police custody and he will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile in a separate incident a 12-year-old girl from Mohale’s Hoek was sexually assaulted by an unknown man.
According to a police report the victim was playing when the suspect called her saying he was going to give her sweets.
The suspect is said to have told the victim not to tell anyone about the incident.
Police investigations continue.
In other news, a 37-year-old woman reported that she was robbed of M7 000, groceries worth M6 000 and cell phones at her supermarket in Leribe on October 3.
It was reported that the two men broke into the woman’s home while she was sleeping. The woman reported that when she woke up she found two men standing by her bedside demanding money.
