MASERU — Deputy Prime Minister, Mothetjoa Metsing said the private sector has an obligation to absorb graduates into the workplace.

Metsing was speaking at a graduation ceremony at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) on Thursday.

“I would like to take this opportunity to challenge the private sector to stretch its arm a little longer and assist in giving these young vibrant graduates a chance,” Metsing said.

“We should bear in mind that almost everyone in the private sector was also sponsored by the government at one point in their life, and now their businesses are benefiting from doing business primarily with the government.

“They should therefore give back to the government by employing this ready investment that the government has put through training,” he said.

Metsing said he has received reports that LUCT graduates in the workplace are performing well.

He urged banks and financial institutions to fund projects for entrepreneur graduates.

“Banks and other financial institutions, together with government must come together and come up with strong financial assistance projects that will help graduates to set up enterprises.

“If we have this kind of thinking, then we have the right thinking to move Lesotho ahead to rapidly grow the economy.”
