MASERU — Local budding comedians will go head to head with their counterparts from Bloemfontein during a stand-up comedy show at Lehakoe Recreation Centre on Friday night.
The comedy show is organised by Cura Man Productions, a local promotions company owned by local funny man Makara “Cura” Mapuru.
Cura told the Xpress People that the show is part of his efforts to develop the comedy industry in Lesotho.
“I have been searching for comedy talent in the country to add value to the development of the industry,” said Cura said who also hosts a show on People’s Choice FM.
“After a long search I have found a number of talented stand-up comedians who would be unveiled during the show.”
“I have working relations with Bloemfontein comedians so to have more spark the festival is going to be a battle of up-and-coming artistes from there and Lesotho.”
“We are going to have Shorts and two other local new surprises battling it out with Itemeleng Modise from Bloemfontein.”
“There are also other two surprises from Strictly Vanac Comedians from South Africa.”
Cura said the show is a build-up to the Morija Arts and Culture Festival’s Comedy festival next month.
“From the Friday’s show we are going to look for a comedian with weight on stage to team up with one giant name from South Africa for the Morija Arts and Culture Festival’s Comedy festival next month,” he said.
“There is a lot of talent at the grassroots level hence the line-up of aspiring artistes.”
“After rolling out to the rest of the districts in search of comedy talent I managed to recruit a large number of talented individuals and this show is a way of promoting that talent.”
