MASERU — A Vodacom A-Division select team will face-off against Vodacom Premier League champions LCS on August 20, a week before the start of this year’s football season.
The Lesotho Football Association (Lefa) administration and competitions officer Mokhosi Mohapi said the once-off match was part of the association’s plans to improve and expose the country’s first division.
“We are trying to make the A-Division more attractive as a product,” Mohapi told the Sunday Express.
“We have selected top players in the A-Division from last season to play against premier league champions LCS.
“The aim is to create an environment of excitement around the league and encourage the players,” Mohapi said.
The A-Division select team will be coached by Likuena coach Leslie Notši, Lefa technical director Seephephe Matete and national Under-20 assistant coach Moses Maliehe.
Mohapi said the venue of the tie would be announced at a later date.
He added that the intention was to make the match a permanent feature on Lesotho’s football calendar with prize money awarded to the winners.
The match will also be part of Masheshena’s preparations for the Caf Champions League next year.
Mohapi also said he was expecting a flurry of players transfers before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Meanwhile a group of referees will attend a course today ahead of the new football season which kicks off on August 27.
The match officials will be overseen by referee’s boss, Paul Phomane.
They are expected to have a test on Sunday.
