MASERU — Premier league chairman, Tlholo Letete, is calling it a day.
“I won’t be running for re-election,” Letete told the Sunday Express on Friday.
Letete was elected premier league boss as a member of Mphatlalatsane.
But with the relegation of the St Monica’s he is no longer eligible to be part of the premier league.
Letete said the premier league committee will meet on Tuesday to thrash out final details.
“We are going to meet on Tuesday so that the gaps in the executive that have been caused by resignations and relegation can be filled,” Letete said.
The positions that have to be filled are that of chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and vice-secretary.
“The Premier will go through all the reports and then set a date for when the elections will take place,” Letete said.
“We want the elections to happen as soon as possible.”
Under Letete’s tenure the league has seen improvements with the major one being the arrival of the first million maloti Vodacom Lesotho sponsorship deal for Lesotho football.
Letete’s tenure also saw an improvement in the communication and relations between Lefa and the premier league.
There were still some negatives though.
Lesotho football has still been dogged by security problems and some clubs are still lagging far behind in their attempts to turn professional.
Meanwhile, Letete who holds the position of the first vice-president of the Lesotho Football Association, said Lesotho’s women’s national team had done a good job at the Cosafa Women’s Championships.
Letete accompanied the team to the tournament in Zimbabwe.
Mehalalitoe were knocked out in the group stages but put up some sterling displays at the tournament. They beat Mozambique 3-2 to finish third in Group A.
“That’s a very beautiful team; it’s got a lot of potential. We have a player who scored six goals at the tournament and it illustrates the type of talent we have in the team,” Letete said.
“It was a very young team, but the character that they showed was amazing,” Letete said.
“We need to invest in this team. If we do they will make us very happy.”
