…as LNIG backs life-saving police training

CHIEF of Police, Advocate Borotho Matsoso, has urged members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) to uphold integrity, reject corruption and treat the public with dignity, saying professionalism remains the foundation of effective policing.
Adv Matsoso made the remarks during a certificate award ceremony for 50 members of the LMPS Fire and Rescue Department who successfully completed a Level 3 First Aid Training Programme sponsored by LNIG Hollard.
Addressing the graduates at Police Training College on Friday, Adv Matsoso acknowledged that the police service continues to face challenges, including corruption and allegations of police brutality.
He urged officers to discourage one another from engaging in bribery and other forms of misconduct, stressing that public confidence in the police depends on ethical conduct and respect for human rights.
He said the LMPS was committed to rebuilding public trust by ensuring officers treated members of the public with courtesy, compassion and professionalism in every interaction.
LNIG Hollard General Manager, Kefuoe Ramokhele, congratulated the officers on completing the training, describing the programme as an investment in saving lives and strengthening Lesotho’s emergency response capacity.
Mr Ramokhele said many people viewed insurance solely as a means of receiving compensation after a loss, yet the company’s mission extended far beyond settling claims.
“Our responsibility is to protect people, preserve property and help ensure that the communities we live in are resilient in the face of unforeseen events,” he said.
He said LNIG Hollard was committed to helping individuals, families and businesses recover from accidents, disasters and other unexpected events, while also supporting initiatives aimed at reducing risks before losses occur.
Mr Ramokhele added that this shared vision had strengthened the company’s long-standing partnership with the LMPS Fire and Rescue Department through a Memorandum of Understanding focused on enhancing emergency preparedness and public safety.
Speaking on behalf of the LMPS Fire and Rescue Department, Inspector Mokhopi thanked LNIG Hollard for its continued support, saying the specialised training had equipped officers with advanced first aid knowledge and practical skills that would improve their response to emergencies.
He said the programme would enhance service delivery and ultimately help save more lives across the country.
The Level 3 First Aid Training Programme forms part of LNIG Hollard’s broader corporate social investment initiatives aimed at strengthening community resilience and supporting frontline emergency responders.
The newly certified officers are expected to apply their enhanced skills in responding to road traffic accidents, fires, medical emergencies and other incidents requiring immediate life-saving intervention.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the successful participants, marking another milestone in the partnership between LNIG Hollard and the LMPS to build a safer and more resilient Lesotho.
