THE Lesotho National Olympics Committee (LNOC) will hold re-elections for its national executive on a date to be announced.

This follows the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision not to listen to their appeal against the arbitration award by Advocate Monaheng Rasekoai calling for fresh elections.

Advocate Rasekoai found that there were irregularities in the polls that were conducted in February this year.

‘Matlohang Moiloa Ramoqopo was re-elected LNOC president at the February elections that were marred by allegations that she and her committee violated the constitution to prolong their stay in office.

The complainants were the Lesotho Netball Association, the Federation of Dance Sport, Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association, Lesotho Swimmers Association and Lesotho Football Association.

LNOC spokesperson, Moshoeshoe Molapo, confirmed the latest developments, saying they were left with no choice but to call for fresh polls after CAS refused to listen to their appeal because they (LNOC) failed to submit some of the required documents on time.

“After the arbitration award we made it clear that we were not satisfied because it was just one-sided as we were not were not involved in it,” Molapo said.

“CAS then asked us to bring some documents as part of our evidence but we unfortunately missed the 2 October 2017 deadline for submission.

“So they said they would no longer listen to our appeal and therefore we will now follow the arbitration award and call for fresh elections on a date to be announced,” he said.
