LMPS’ disappointing start to the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) season continued yesterday as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to LCS, extending their winless run to seven matches.
A late goal from LCS forward Keketso Snyders condemned Simunye to another defeat, leaving them still searching for their first victory of the 2026/27 campaign.
The result leaves LMPS rooted to the bottom of the league standings with just two points from seven matches.
Yesterday’s encounter was LMPS’ first under caretaker coach Sheli Ramoseka, who took charge after the club sacked head coach Masupha Letsie and his assistant, Mosito Matela, last weekend following the team’s poor run of form.
The club is now searching for a new head coach as it seeks to turn its fortunes around.
Despite the defeat, Ramoseka said his players had given their all but were let down by poor finishing and a costly mistake that LCS punished.
He believes LMPS could have secured their first win had they converted their chances. However, he acknowledged that the team’s poor start to the season was beginning to affect the players’ confidence, with frustration creeping in when results failed to go their way. This, he said, often led to rushed decisions in front of goal.
“As you have seen, we created enough chances but failed to convert them, and we made a mistake that they capitalised on,” Ramoseka said.
“We have worked on our finishing in training, but it is clear that we need to do more. Things have not been going well for us, and it is true that sometimes, because the players are eager to see a change in fortunes, they make rushed decisions in front of goal.”
Nevertheless, Ramoseka remains hopeful that LMPS will turn the corner in their upcoming fixtures.
Meanwhile, LCS coach Sidwell Mothea acknowledged that his side had also struggled to make a strong start to the season but said there were encouraging signs of progress.
“The progress is there, but we have to work more on our players’ confidence. I am happy with how most of our young players are developing,” Mothea said.
In other matches played yesterday, Lifofane returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over newcomers Villa in Maputsoe.
Majantja edged Machokha 1-0 in Mohale’s Hoek, while Members also claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over LU.
