LEROTHOLI Polytechnic has kicked off its 120th anniversary celebrations with a vibrant two-day open day, setting the tone for a year filled with reflection, inspiration, and forward-thinking.
The event brought together prospective students, educators, industry leaders, and members of the community to honour the institution’s legacy and explore innovations shaping its future.
Held at the main campus in Maseru on Thursday and Friday, the open day featured exhibitions of student projects, career guidance sessions, and opportunities for learners and businesses to connect and collaborate. High schools from Maseru and Berea were among the many that participated, giving their students a chance to experience firsthand what Lerotholi Polytechnic has to offer.
Founded in 1905, Lerotholi Polytechnic has been at the heart of technical and vocational education in Lesotho. To mark its 120th year, the institution has lined up a series of commemorative events, including the inauguration of its first-ever Chancellor in August 2025, and a special recognition of top-performing students at its October graduation ceremony.
Addressing guests at the open day, the institution’s Rector, Sepiriti Tlali, reflected on the school’s journey and mission.
“For over a century, Lerotholi Polytechnic has remained committed to developing the skills of young people in ways that support our country’s economic growth,” Professor Tlali said.
“We are honoured to welcome you today to witness the opportunities that await our future students.”
Prof Tlali said the institution enjoys a unique position in Lesotho’s education landscape.
“We are the only technical and vocational institution of our kind in the country, offering a wide range of programs tailored to meet industry demands. Our facilities may be modest, but they are purpose-driven, designed to equip our students with the practical skills they need to thrive both in the job market and as entrepreneurs.”
He also said Lerotholi Polytechnic takes pride in producing industry-ready graduates who not only look for employment but also create it.
“Thank you once again for joining us. We hope your visit gives you a glimpse into the possibilities that await you here – a place where you can build a foundation of skills, confidence, and ambition to become a responsible citizen and a changemaker.”
