MASERU — Local group Street Version says it will release its debut house music album, Street Engineers, in time for Christmas.
Street Version comprises two friends, Phakiso Mokhatla — popularly known as DJ Phakzino — and DJ Spele, born Malebanye Masopha.
According to DJ Phakzino, some tracks are of gospel house because of their religious backgrounds.
“We are Christian DJs… the group is made-up of Christians,” said Mokhatla.
He explained the album “seeks to pass the message of God and take house music to a whole new level”.
The affable DJ says he likes house music so much he decided to establish his own record company, House Shake Down.
“I grew up listening to house-music and I always wanted to be a producer. I am happy that today people are dancing to my music. I would like to improve the standard of house music in Lesotho,” he told Xpress People.
Street Engineers, he said, had initially been scheduled for release last year, through Mighty Records.
“But we couldn’t, due to some personal problems. We just left it; there were no conflicts,” he said.
“I established my own company this year, and we are just making some improvements on the album we were to release in 2008.”
He said one song on the 15-track album, Don’t Hang Up, is already playing on local radio.
“It’s a hit track of our album,” he enthused.
