MASERU — Masupha Masupha, the former Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Stock Theft Detection Unit, was on Friday catapulted to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
Masupha’s promotion comes exactly a week after DCP Khothatso Ts’ooana was appointed acting Commissioner of Police while the former acting commissioner Keketso Monaheng was reassigned to the position of deputy commissioner of police.

Prime Minister Thomas Thabane, who is also police minister, promoted Masupha in line with section 6 No 7 of the Police Act of 1998, thus putting the former spokesperson of the police in charge of the Strategic Management Support Services (SMSS).

The Sunday Express understands that this is the second time in a space of one
year that Masupha has been promoted.

From a senior inspector and police spokesperson, Masupha was last year skipped the two ranks of superintendent and senior superintendent to become ACP.

Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Lebona Mohloboli confirmed the promotion
yesterday saying: “DCP Masupha will be responsible for Strategic Management
Support Services (SMSS)”.

Mohloboli said Thabane acted in line with the provisions of section 6 No 7 of Police Act of 1998, which state that “the minister has all the powers to appoint any senior police officer to fill the position of a DCP in consultation with the Commissioner of Police”.
