THE quartet of Joshua Leballo, John Mawere, Mphaphathi Moshoeshoe and John Badia were on Friday evening crowned champions at the fourth annual Alliance Charity Golf Tournament at Maseru Golf Club.
The four each scored 56 points.
Another quartet of Johny Lim, Moleli Mokhejane, Henning Boyseng and Ramosehlana Mapetla came second with 55 points. Khotso Mothebesoane, Mohlomi Seitlheko, Ntheli Monaphathi and Retselisitsoe Mabote all settled for third place with 54 points.
The one-day tourney was organised by insurance giants, Alliance Insurance Company to raise funds for charity work.
The tournament saw over 50 golfers battling out in a four-ball method playing 18 holes.
Alliance Insurance Company Marketing Manager Limakatso Mokobocho hailed the event as a success after it raised over M100 000 from different individuals and corporates who pledged during the prize giving ceremony.
She said the tournament is also meant to provide a platform where the organisation meets with its clients and business associates in a flexible environment while they are also raising funds for charity.
“When this tournament was introduced many years ago it was only about playing golf until four years ago when it was decided that it should be golf with a purpose,” Mokobocho said.
“We invite our clients and business associates so that we can get to network in a relaxed environment while at the same time we raise funds for charity work. The tournament is improving and hopefully it will get better each year,” Mokobocho said.
Last year’s proceeds were donated to Beautiful Dreams Society, which deals with human trafficking victims and Mokobocho said they are yet to select the beneficiaries of this year’s funds.
“We are yet to decide which charity to give the money to this year but we are still waiting for proposals from different homes. We decide based on whether or not the charity home’s work is in line with what we believe in as Alliance Insurance Company,” Mokobocho said.
