MASERU — Mighty Recs Crew, a local hip-hop group, has landed a deal to record the Vodacom Soccer Spectacular theme song, Motšehetsi.

Last year the group also recorded the theme song for Summa Feva, another Vodacom Lesotho project.

Mighty Recs Crew member Benedict “Bennie B” Mokhatla told Xpress People the telecommunications giant had approached the group to work on the theme song for the annual football tournament.

“We were approached to record a theme song of the concept Vodacom had initiated by the acting marketing manager, Refiloe Mohlotsang and the managing executive commercials Tšabisa Letsoela.”

“We submitted our product and they loved it,” Mokhatla said.

“This is not the first time we are working with Vodacom and, on our side, we think we are on the right path.”

He said the deal with Vodacom Lesotho would see Mighty Recs Crew performing at all major matches of the tournament.

“This is a motivation to us,” Mokhatla said. “We hope this will also open more channels for our musical growth as we will be exposed extensively during our live performances.”

Mohlotsane said they hoped to reach people from all walks of life by including local artists in the company’s campaigns.

She said in doing so the company was also promoting local musicians.

“Music is a very hard field so we are trying to enhance the financial muscle of the artists we work with,” Mohlotsane said.

She said since the start of the year, Vodacom Lesotho had worked with TNT Security Band, Thamae Choir, famo star Mantša.

“The concept this year unlike last year is focused on the fans and we thought Mighty Recs Crew had the energy to pull through our concept,” Mohlotsane said.

She said Vodacom Lesotho would have the copyright to Motšehetsi.

“We came up with the concept and wrote what we wanted and pitched it to the professionals hence the copyright is ours,” Mohlotsane said.

She said they were impressed by Mighty Recs Crew when the group performed during the promotional road shows for the Summa Feva gala last year.

“We saw their potential and thought of them when we came up with the Summa Feva concept,” Mohlotsane said.

‘I believe this is just God’s way of brightening their path.”
