…donates M21 000 worth of?blankets and shoes to vulnerable Butha Buthe community members

DIGITAL financial services?platform, Mukuru, has donated blankets and school shoes worth M21 000 to vulnerable people in Butha-Buthe in celebration?of King Letsie III’s 61st birthday.
Mukuru handed over 30 blankets to the vulnerable in Ha Molapo community in the district, and 30 pairs of school shoes to students from St. Peter’s Primary and High School on 16 July 2024, the eve of His Majesty’s birthday. The actual birthday celebrations were also held in Butha-Buthe?the next day.
Among people who graced the Mukuru event were His Majesty?himself, Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, Princess ‘Maseeiso, Minister of Local Government, Home Affairs, Chieftainship and Police Lebona Lephema, among other dignitaries.
Mukuru’s Agent Land Coordinator, Thakane Malataliana, said the?donation was part of their Corporate Social Investment (CSI)?initiative to?celebrate?His Majesty’s 61st birthday.
“As a way of giving back to the?community, Mukuru celebrated the King’s 61st birthday by giving back to the Butha Buthe community, as the district chosen to celebrate the King this year,” Ms Malataliana said.?
“We gave 30 blankets to families at Ha Molapo and neighbouring villages and 15 pairs of school shoes to students at St. Peter’s primary school and 15 pairs to St. Peter’s?High?School.
Ms Malataliana said?her company cared deeply about the needs of communities.
“As Mukuru our core business is enabling easy transfers of money?for the?care of families and their needs like?education…?We are?thus?helping to ensure that these children and their families are supported to enable them to thrive in their studies because Mukuru cares,” Ms Malataliana added.
Mr Lephema seized the opportunity to wish King Letsie III a blessed life and more years and urged Butha-Buthe people to conserve the rich history that the district had as the place where King Moshoeshoe I founded the Basotho nation.
“As we celebrate His Majesty’s 61st birthday and 200 years anniversary?of Lesotho, let’s revive and renew our nation and strive for peace,” Mr Lephema said.
For his part, King Letsie III urged Basotho to strive for peace as King Moshoeshoe I was a custodian of peace. He said Basotho were a beautiful nation and must do away with bad things that taint their image.
“We are a beautiful nation and we must avoid things that destabilise our peace.?We must avoid crime, murders because they taint our beautiful image.? This year is the year of renewal and revival, we must preach messages of love and peace, and sow seeds of love and peace so that we live?in?harmony and peacefully,” His Majesty said.
