MASERU – A 26-year-old Leribe woman was on Wednesday stabbed to death by her 27-year-old estranged husband who suspected her of having a love affair.
According to a police report, the couple was walking together to work when the man stabbed his wife.
Police spokesperson, Inspector Thato Ramarikhoane, said it was not clear what the cause of their separation was. But he said it appears the couple was still on talking terms since they had been seen in each others’ company on several occasions.
He said the suspect turned himself him.
“The man told the police that he suspected that his wife was having an affair. He stabbed her four times. It was not clear what had caused the separation but their families were yet to intervene,” Ramarikhoane said.
He said the suspect told the police that he tried to flee after he contemplated to commit suicide.
“He said the thought of his children mad him not to flee or commit suicide. It is not yet clear how many children they had. That was when he decided to hand himself over to the police. He is still in custody and is yet to appear before court,” he said.
Ramarikhoane said the suspect also sustained serious stab wounds that included two on the chest and on the arms.
