MASERU — A Mohale’s Hoek man sexually assaulted his grandmother on the advice of a traditional healer who said the act would secure him a job on October 5.
The 21-year-old suspect briefly appeared before the Mohale’s Hoek magistrate court.
Police spokesperson Thato Ramarikhoane confirmed the incident.
“It was reported that the suspect who stays with his 81-year-old maternal grandmother sexually assaulted her.
“The suspect was staying with his grandmother but they were sleeping in two different houses,” police spokesperson Thato Ramarikhoane said.
“The suspect came home late at night on Saturday then he asked his grandmother to open for him as he needed food.
“The old woman sleeps in a room used as a kitchen,” he said.
“After the old woman let him into the house so that he could get some food the suspect assaulted his grandmother,” he added.
The suspect explained that his traditional healer had promised him that he would get a job if he raped his grandmother.
The suspect was remanded in custody and is awaiting trial.
Two weeks back an 87-year-old man was arrested after he was allegedly accused of raping his 16-year-old granddaughter.
It was reported that the suspect started assaulting the victim last year but she did not report the matter because she was scared.
The man allegedly impregnated his granddaughter.
