STILL riding high on the success of his debut single I’m Just a Boy that has over 7 million listeners on South African radio, John Tšenoli has dropped a video titled Long Road.

Released on Friday, the single is a collaboration with Ryno Zeelie and Matthew Marinus.

Tšenoli told the Xpress People that the song tells the story of his journey from Lesotho to Johannesburg four years ago.

“It’s a song about perseverance, hope, strength and staying true to your journey,” Tšenoli said adding: “It’s about leaving a legacy that later generations can be proud of and hold onto”.

Tšenoli said they started writing the track in 2017 having started a conversation with Ryno and Matthew about the importance of staying true to oneself.

“It’s been three years since we first started writing the initial melodies of the track.  So, it’s been a long winding road…  John is a singer who makes you believe and he has poured all his passion into this track – and you can feel it,” Matthew said.

Tšenoli said the journey leading to the release of his second singled has been “incredible”.

“There are some people who have come into my life since I arrived onto the scene arriving in Joburg and they helped me to align my thoughts. This songwriting partnership with Matthew and Ryno has helped me express myself as an artiste, they’ve seen my vision and are helping me express that message and for that I am deeply grateful,” Tšenoli said.

He said it was important for artistes to remain humble and remain grounded in truth.

“This is important for me, to be proud of the artiste that I am becoming. I want children in my village who watch me, to be proud of my journey too, and to use it as an inspiration that they too; can follow their dreams, no matter how difficult the journey is.”

John said he hopes the song would inspire the listeners to act and pursue their dreams.

He said the video tells the story of a man who leaves his home and his family to find work and must support his family from a distance.
