FORMER Kick4Life winger, ‘Mako Makoanyane says he is impressed with his performance at the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) League in the United States of America.
Makoanyane left the country two years ago with teammate, Lesia Thetsane after they were granted a scholarship at the State Fair Community College in Missouri, where he is studying Football and Environmental Science.
The stocky midfielder who was also part of the national under-20 side before his departure said his second season was more improved than the first.
“It has been a challenging two years but I like it because the challenges are also helping me grow and improve as a player,” Makoanyane said.
“I am impressed with how I did this year compared to last year and the team also did well as we have won more matches this season.”
He said at the moment he is focusing on his studies while readying for the new season that starts in August.
“The regular season ended in November, but we also have a mini season that starts in February and end in April so at the moment the focus is mostly on my academics because I also have to find a balance and make sure I maintain good grades,” Makoanyane said.
He said his stay in the USA his and career have been aided by the availability of sponsorship and the facilities.
He said sports in Lesotho could also grow if the various disciplines were to get similar financial support and facilities.
“I think would not be too far off if we had the same facilities and support from sponsors and authorities like they do here. The fact that they have the monetary support makes it easy for sports to be ran professionally.”
The talented winger said he intends to stay in the USA longer after completing his studies and hopes to secure professional contracts.
“My plan is still to stay here. I want to play professional soccer, achieve as much as possible in soccer. However, it that does not work out, then I would have to look at other options.
“I dream to one day play in the senior national colours and that is why I work hard every day to improve myself, grow and ready myself for the day that I will be called-up,” Makoanyane said.
