LCS, Leqele dominate netball league

LCS and Leqele High School continued their dominance of the male and female categories in the Lesotho Netball Association (LNA) league which roared into life at the LCS Grounds on Thursday.
The correctional service side hammered First Number and Lerotholi Polytechnic 38-16 and 47-9 in the female category and also beat Prince and Leseli 35-13 and 26-19 in the male fixtures respectively.
Leqele proved too hot to handle for Prince, winning 38-4 to maintain pole position in the female category. LCS lead the male league.
The female league has two streams, A and B to accommodate many teams while the male league has only one stream.
LNA spokesperson, Matsepo Mohau said they were impressed by the level of competition in the league this season.
“The level of competition is promising and we are really proud of how our teams are playing,” Mohau said.
“There is still room for improvement particularly for the teams from outside Maseru.
“We held coaching and umpiring clinics in different regions and the target was to increase the pool of coaches, teams and players especially in remote areas and it looks like we are getting there.
“We also have LDF in the mix and we know how they good they used to be so their inclusion will bring more competition which is good for the improvement of the sport.”
She said they had begun scouting for under 20 players as part of preparations for the 2018 Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) games.
“We are trying by all means to be ready and we have also started scouting for players for our under 20 team for next year’s AUSC games in Botswana. Our coaching clinics also target schools because that is where most of players are.”
Mohau said the next round will probably be played after the schools’ winter holidays since the school teams were preparing for their June examinations.
