Early Christmas for Setibing

CHRISTMAS came early for the Setibing community after the Lesotho Off-Road Association (LORA) gave out 65 blankets to orphans and less privileged children on Friday.
LORA president Tubatsi Kuoe said this was part of their charitable activities that they hold annually in different communities that they work with for the Roof of Africa race.
The Roof of Africa is held at the end of every year. The race celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
He said the charity events are also part of their gratitude to the communities.
“This annual activity is part of our corporate social initiatives where we thank the communities for their cooperation in the Roof of Africa race,” Kuoe said.
“The money comes from the riders as we usually ask them to contribute at least M100 each.”
Among the goods that they delivered were blanket which Kuoe said was in line with the extremely cold conditions that are prevailing in the country.
He also took the opportunity to plead with the communities to teach their children to desist from pelting the riders with stones and begging for money from tourists.
“It is all our responsibility to take care of the touring riders so parents must teach their children to stop throwing at the riders and asking for money from them.
“Let us raise a happy generation since we want them to understand that sport can also improve their lives.”
Setibing Ha Sempe chief, Malesa Theko, expressed gratitude to LORA for the gifts and said the gesture meant a lot to the villagers as they now know that they are remembered even when the race is not on-going.
“We are thankful to LORA because the gesture shows that they appreciate the people of Setibing,” Chief Theko said.
She said they had selected the beneficiaries from five villages.
