MASERU — After 12 gunshots were heard from his bedroom at his Sehlabeng Plateau residence on the night of January 1 last year, prosperous taxi owner Makholoko Masupha was found dead.

For a whole year there has been no clue as to who could have killed the owner of the popular Easy Does It Transport Services.

In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, the unexpected happened when the deceased’s wife, 47-year-old Lisebo Masupha, was arrested after being identified as the prime suspect in her husband’s
murder.

Masupha appeared before Magistrate Celestine Murenzi at the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on the same day she was arrested. Qcinumuzi Tshabalala prosecuted.

She was remanded in custody until January 22 for another court appearance. According to the charge sheet seen by the Sunday Express on Friday, Masupha is charged with the murder of her
husband on or about January 2 last year near Thuathe Sehlabeng in Berea district.

The charge sheet further notes “the said accused did intentionally kill Makholoko Masupha”.
Speaking to this paper on Friday, police spokesperson Senior Inspector Lebona Mohloboli said the police had been hunting Masupha’s murderers since last year and investigations have now
linked his wife to the murder.

“Lisebo Masupha was on duty at one of the clothing chain stores in one of the shopping malls when she was arrested on Tuesday in Maseru,” Mohloboli said.

‘Mamochekoane Masupha, a representative of the family, told the press last year that the murderers of Masupha entered his house without breaking in.

The homestead is tightly secured with two gates and any intruder must have had to pass through the kitchen door straight to his bedroom before shooting him twelve times and escape unnoticed.
‘Mamochekoane added that the security guard who was on duty on that fateful day was said to have been deeply asleep in one of the cars when his boss was shot dead.

“Masupha was shot and killed while in bed asleep with his wife,” ‘Mamochekoane said.

Soon after Masupha’s death, speculation was rife the deceased had suffered from depression after suspecting that he had been defrauded of large sums of money from his bank account in Maseru.
The rumour further claimed that after the deceased established that he was indeed being defrauded, he reported the matter to the bank in question which fixed an appointment with him to view
footage of the bank’s surveillance cameras on January 2 2013.

The late businessman was supposed visit the bank the following day but met his fate before he could do so.
