THREE people have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of the Democratic Congress (DC) councilor for Mohale’s Hoek, Marianna Senohe.
Ms Senohe died on 8 October 2019 allegedly after being repeatedly stabbed with a sharp object by some assailants in her home.
Police Spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli recently told the Sunday Express that a 37 year old man, a 29 year old man and a 22 year old woman, all from Mohale’s Hoek, had been arrested in connection with Ms Senohe’s murder.
“They were arrested with the help of information given to the police by the local community and some of the deceased’s personal stuff including cellphones were found on them” said Supt Mopeli, adding the suspects were all in detention and would soon appear in court on murder charges.
DC deputy leader, Motlalentoa Letsosa, said the female suspect went to the now deceased Ms Senohe’s home under the false pretext that she wanted the latter to intervene in her domestic dispute in her capacity as a respected councilor.
“She (the female suspect) pretended she needed help and said the councilor would broker peace between her and her husband as she (Ms Senohe) was well respected in her community. Little did she (Ms Senohe) know that this was a move meant to investigate her home to see if there was anyone else around before the killers could pounce.
“The councilor agreed to mediate and the woman (suspect) said she would go to her place to fetch her husband, only for her to bring in the two male killers. We are told that they locked up Senohe’s kids in a room before they mercilessly killed her.
“We laud the police for arrested the perpetrators and we appeal to them to expedite the prosecution of this and similar cases in the interests of justice and to help the aggrieved to find closure.
“When such cases of brutal killings drag, people get angry over and they resort to mob justice. And when the cases drag on in the courts, aggrieved parties take longer to find closure.
“The courts should therefore timeously prosecute cases and administer,” Mr Letsosa said.
