CHILDREN at an orphanage in Maseru East will sleep comfortably after they received a timely donation of blankets by telecommunications giant, Econet.

The 22 blankets, handed over to the Malibuseng Children Home on Friday afternoon, are part of Econet’s vibrant Corporate Social Responsibility programme. This is in addition to other initiatives to give back to the community.

Malibuseng Children Home, owned by the Ratšolo family, has been received help from Econet in the past.

On the last day of 2016, the children at the home received food parcels and clothes from Econet.

The home is receiving the blankets at a time when Lesotho’s legendary winter is biting. That the home is on the banks of Maqalika Dam makes winters particularly horrible for the children at the orphanage.

Econet Public Relations Officer, Puleng Masoabi, said the donation is a result of the “donate a blanket” campaign which the company introduced last year.

Ms Masoabi said Malibuseng Children Home is home of the many that have benefitted from the campaign.

“The children who stay at Malibuseng are always on our mind as it is one of the orphanages with very little resources. The fact that the place is situated at the top of the Maqalika Dam makes it susceptible to the freezing breezes does not help” she said.

Thandie Mhlakaza (17) thanked Econet on behalf of the children for “always remembering the orphanage and promised to take care of the donated blankets.”

“We can see that we are not lost and hope to see you again soon” said Mhlakaza.

‘Maserame Molahlehi, the orphanage’s caretaker, also thanked Econet for the generous gesture.

She said it was heartwarming to see that there are companies like Econet that never forget that there are children who need help.
