MASERU — South African clap and tap group, Barorisi Ba Morena, are set to hold two shows in Lesotho at the end of this month.
The talented outfit will first take to the dance floor at AME Hall on October 29 before moving to Manthabiseng Convention Centre the following day.
Rev Ben Mosala, who is organising the show, told Xpress People on Friday that the show is meant to promote clap and tap music in the country.
“We are merely setting standards and making history in the clap and tap music industry,” he said. “Barorisi Ba Morena is one group which has been there from the 80s and it has shown dedication and devotion. This is the reason we are bringing them to Lesotho,” Rev Mosala said.
“We are going to host Barorisi Ba Morena in a two-day musical show with the intention of reaching all fans who will be travelling from across the country.”
Rev Mosala said their mission was to popularise this type of music as part of a long-term vision to develop individual choirs.
“The shows are meant to raise funds so that choirs that have taken part in the competitions receive monetary prizes. Every choir is expected to initiate a long-term sustainable project,” he said.
“The reason we have invited Barorisi Ba Morena was to instil individuality among local choirs so they can still be sustainable beyond this competitions.”
Barorisi Ba Morena will be performing in Lesotho for the first time.
“We are inviting everyone who loves gospel music to come and witness the making of history,” Rev Mosala said.
The South African outfit will perform alongside three local groups.
“We are going to have three local artistes performing alongside Barorisi Ba Morena but the groups will be voted for by fans via an SMS campaign that started running two months ago,” Rev Mosala said.
“The public is voting to select the three groups out of the 10 that participated at a local competition last month.”
He added the latest shows had managed to promote clap and dance music throughout Lesotho. “The second competition which was held at AME last month saw a large number of fans attending. The venue was full beyond capacity,” Rev Mosala said.
“This taught us we are in the right direction in promoting this genre.”
