RAPPER, T-Herbs, is set to unleash his latest offering, Entse le Joalo, on 27 December with the Durban-based duo of rappers, Zakwe and Duncan, billed to perform in Lesotho for the first time at the launch ceremony.
Born in Teyateyaneng, but now based in Tšenola, T-Herbs started off as a poet in his secondary school days before foraying into the Hip-Hop industry in 2006. In a previous interview with Xpress People, T-Herbs revealed that he wound up in the Hip-Hop arena after he decided to add melody to his poetry verses.
In Entse Le Joalo T-Herbs delves into different sub-genres of Hip-Hop. Sesotho, slang and English are dexterously combined in his lyrical compositions while managing to keep the essence of the genre intact.
“This album was inspired by my life experiences, while in some cases, I sing about something I witnessed,” T-Herbs said.
The album includes such tracks as Ke hopotse Hae (Homesick) and I See, which narrate the problems people are aware of but prefer to turn a blind eye to. It was released in June but will only be officially launched this month.
Asked why he took his time before the launch, T-Herbs said: “One cannot just launch a musical offering that people don’t know about, so I actually took time disseminating information about the album so that people would know what is being launched.
“Together with my team, I held a couple of promos and since it has now reached the target market, it is high time I launch it.”
At the launce event, the likes of Duncan, Zakwe, MC Fire, MIP Liquid Gold, Lakzen and Kot Inferno, among others, have been billed to also perform. T-Herbs said he decided to bring South African acts to get more exposure as the local music industry is still in a learning curve.
“The local music industry is still making its baby steps hence my inviting the likes of Zakwe and Duncan as the South African Hip Hop scene is highly developed,” he said.
“We would also like to learn how they did it so that we can get there as well.”
“Added to that,” T-Herbs added, “my music is on a grown-man tip which is more in line with what Zakwe and Duncan do, and the two have never been to Lesotho nor the Free State province before, so this is an opportunity for the Sesotho-speaking communities to watch them perform live.”
Hailing from Durban and under the Tsotsi By Nature stable, Zakwe shot to fame last year with the hit Scatterings Reloaded which landed him a number of collaborations and award nominations.
On the other hand, Duncan is more Kwaito inclined and released a remix to Mdu’s Tsiki Tsiki, which has rocked the airwaves since.
