THE Women Super League (WSL) pre-season tournament gets underway today at different venues in Maseru and Mafeteng.
WSL Management Committee secretary general, Nkopane Rajoale, told this publication yesterday that the tournament was aimed at keeping teams active before the beginning of the 2022/23 WSL season.
The league is expected to start between August and September this year.
“We organised the tournament to keep our players busy while they wait for the beginning of the 2022/23 season,” Rajoale said.
“This will also help coaches build their teams in preparation for the beginning of the league.”
He said the games will be played on Sunday as some of the players have academic commitments on the other days.
“We value the education of our players. Some players have classes to attend even on Saturdays, so we resolved that the games will be played only on Sundays to avoid interfering with their school timetables.”
The tournament will be financed by the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA).
The first game will feature Kic4Life versus Thaba-Tseka at the Police Training College (PTC).
Berea Ladies versus Rovers and LDF Ladies versus Basetsana United are the other games to be played today at the same venue.
At Leshoboro Stadium, in Mafeteng, Sky Battalion host FC Stoko while Mafeteng Sistas take on Limkokwing Ladies.
Kick4Life are looking forward to returning to winning way having won the 2021 WSL Dare to Dream Tournament in July last year.
The next games will be played next Sunday with Limkokwing, Thaba-Tseka Ladies and Basetsana taking trips to Roma to face Rovers, Sky Battalion and Mafeteng Sistas respectively.
On the same day, FC Stoko play Berea Ladies while LDF Ladies and Kick4Life renew their long-time rivalry. Both games will be played in Maputsoe.
