Maseru — A 32-year-old woman of Matsoatlareng has been remanded in custody for stabbing to death her six-year-old daughter on Wednesday.
Police reports indicate that the woman stabbed the girl along the Mohokare River at Ha Lesia on the back and in the neck.
Police spokesperson Thato Ramarikhaone said the woman is said to have taken the child under the false pretence of taking her to town to buy her goodies.
It is not yet clear who the woman’s daughter was staying with.
But when they got to town, they are said to have taken a taxi westward out of town and went to the scene where the murder is suspected to have been executed.
The woman is then said to have gone to the Thetsane Police Station where she turned herself in, together with a bloody knife suspected to be the murder weapon.
“On Wednesday a woman is said to have gone to the Thetsane Police station where she handed herself with a knife which she said she had just used to kill a six-year-old girl by stabbing her on the back and neck,” Ramarikhoane said.
The woman has since arrested appeared in the Maseru Magistrate Court where she was remanded in custody.
Police investigations into what prompted the incident are in progress.
