Wife accused of stabbing husband to death
A 25-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her husband to death at the couple’s Ha-Thamae home on Tuesday last week.
According to the Officer Commanding Maseru Urban Police, Senior Superintendent Mofokeng Kolo, the husband had reportedly tried to stop his wife from leaving him following a violent confrontation, when the tragic incident happened.
Senior Superintendent Kolo on Friday told the Sunday Express that the husband—a 39-year-old security guard—died on the spot after he was struck in the chest with a kitchen knife.
According to Senior Superintendent Kolo, the suspect briefly appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on Thursday charged with murder, and was remanded in custody, after being advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
“The wife claimed that she stabbed her husband when he became violent after she had told him that she was leaving him,” Snr Supt Kolo said.
“The woman said their marriage had been a violent one, which was why she wanted out.”
On that fateful afternoon, Snr Supt Kolo said the wife claimed after a violent confrontation, she had started to pack her things with the intention to leave her matrimonial home for good.
“She said this angered her husband and they started fighting before she grabbed the knife and stabbed the man,” Snr Supt Kolo said.
