MASERU — Telecommunications giant, Vodacom Lesotho, on Friday launched the Vodacom Superstar music competition at ’Manthabiseng Convention Centre.
The competition, which started last year, is aimed at unearthing and promoting music talent in the country.
Each winner from the 10 categories will get M50 000 and a trophy. Runners’ up in each category will get M20 000 each, while those that come third will get M10 000 each. Those that come fourth and fifth will get M5 000 apiece. Vodacom Lesotho is also giving away 60 double tickets for a cruise from Durban to the Portuguese Island in Mozambique and M2 000 worth of grocery vouchers to lucky fans.
Fans are expected to vote for their favourite artiste through the company’s short message service (sms) system.
Vodacom Lesotho dancers raised the curtain when they showcased their breath-taking skills.
’Manthabiseng Convention Centre was transformed into a chapel when last year’s Vodacom superstar winner, Palesa Motlomelo, hit the stage.
Motlomelo, who is planning to release her debut album soon, courtesy of Vodacom Lesotho, thrilled the audience with her melodious voice.
She sang mostly praise songs that had revellers joining her in praising the Lord.
Motlomelo told the crowd that her forthcoming album would be a bomb.
“My album is pretty good and it’s coming very soon. I am sure you are all going to like it,” she said.
Jazz guru, Bhudaza Maphefane, set the ball rolling on stage with an outstanding sing-along performance that wowed the audience.
Bhudaza encouraged the upcoming superstars to work hard in building their talent.
“I urge you to keep on practising, do not rest until you make your dreams fruitful,” he said.
The tempo was raised when South African superstar, Chomee, took to the stage.
Hers was for the ultimate performance of the night.
Chomee had her game working on stage when she dropped her popular hit tracks including Zombo which got the revellers dancing.
The talented artiste left the crowd in stitches when she jokingly said she would love to get married in Lesotho “because the people in Lesotho are lovely”.
“I want to marry a Mosotho man because this is the best place to be, where people show you some love,” she said.
Chomee told the XpressPeople that she felt great to be in Lesotho and she would love to come back again.
“I am happy to be here because I was given a warm welcome. It is my pleasure to work with Vodacom Lesotho in promoting talent within the country.
“I am looking forward to coming back and work with my fellow talented brothers and sisters in Lesotho,” she added.
One of the revellers, Khotso Malimabe, said he was happy to attend the show.
“I am very happy to be here as this is my first time to witness Chomee performing live,” he said.
