MASERU — Lesotho’s two mobile telecommunications companies on Friday separately launched promotions that will give away, among many other prizes, cars.
Vodacom Lesotho launched the Summa Feva amid much fanfare in the capital, while Econet Telecom Lesotho unveiled its Festive Bonanza across town.
There were various festivities held on Friday to launch the Summa Feva with a noisy convoy, spontaneous dancing and general merry-making that swamped Maseru.
The Vodacom procession started from the Maseru Bridge border post and ended at Fruit and Veg supermarket in the city centre.
A convoy of Vodacom-branded vehicles lined Kingsway Road, bringing traffic to a virtual standstill.
The Summa Feva promotion is in its third year running.
The promotion has over the years been made popular by a musical bash held in the festive season.
But this year’s Summa Feva is not about the bash itself.
Vodacom will give away five VW Citi Golf cars to lucky winners.
Other prizes include plasma televisions, home theatres and cell-phones.
The promotion ends on January 28 next year.
Econet Telecom’s Christmas promotion will end a week earlier on January 17.
Nontuthuzelo Mda, Econet Telecom’s head of marketing, said some prizes will be won every week.
The prizes will include groceries, a laptop and cellphones.
The big prize, however, will be two cars which will be given out at the end of the promotion.
Mda said the main reason behind the promotion was to give back to their customers.
“They have been supportive to the company,” she said.
She said this was not the first time the company was giving away cars as prizes.
“(Econet Telecom) has given away three cars in past promotions,” Mda said.
