A Sehlabeng-sa-Thuathe toddler yesterday helped the police arrest her 20-year-old brother suspected to have stabbed a 26-year-old man to death in Sea-Point.
The man is believed to have died of multiple stab wounds in the early hours of yesterday.
According to a source, the now-deceased sought help from a neighbour soon after he had been stabbed at around 3am.
“Apparently, no one opened for him as they were scared that they could also be attacked. Eventually, the man died at their doorstep while waiting for the police who showed up hours shortly after 5am. The police had been called by some of the neighbours who had heard the man calling for help,” said the source, who requested not to be named for fear of reprisal.
“When police attended the scene, one of the children who stays near to where the now-deceased had gone to ask for help, remarked about his brother’s bloody clothes which raised suspicion. The child’s 20-year-old brother was then taken in for questioning, and we don’t know what he told the police.”
Police spokesperson Clifford Molefe yesterday confirmed the killing and arrest of a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the murder.
“It is true that a 20-year-old man from Sehlabeng-sa-Thuathe staying in a rented house in Sea-Point was arrested today as a suspect in a murder case in which a 26-year-old man died of multiple stab wounds,” Senior Inspector Molefe said.
“He is going to appear in court once investigations are complete.”
