MASERU city centre-based Times Café will on Saturday play host to the first ever Masquerade-themed party dubbed “Sin City”.
A Masquerade-themed party is an event in which the participants attend in costume or wearing a mask. They were a feature of 17th and 18th century Europe and were particularly popular in the Italian city of Venice.
The event has been organized by DJs, Saxzo and Shaixstacy, who told XpresssPeople this past week that “Sin City” did not imply that they would engage in amoral activities, but was premised on the 2005 American neo-noir crime thriller by the same name.
“In 2005, Frank Miller released an action/adventure film that explores the dark and miserable town, Basin City, and tells the story of three different people, all caught up in violent corruption,” said DJ Saxzo.
“The characters in the film are synonymous with the use of Masquerade masks, and since it was popular, we decided on “Sin City” as the title of our event.”
He said the theme was borne out of the need to offer revelers a novel and unique event.
“Local revelers are always dancing to the same tune with parties revolving around the same themes, so we came up with something different which will take them out of their comfort zone,” DJ Saxzo said.
“This is one of many party themes we will introduce in our efforts to change the entertainment scene. We will be holding parties of this nature on a quarterly basis revolving around different themes and costumes that are synonymous with a particular season.”
He said the bash would also feature performances by House and Hip Hop artists as well as standup comedy. Among the artists lined up include the organizers, MS Relo, Ms Echo, Osmic, Hunky D, DJ Wicks, Palycetra, Trybz DJ and DJ Linah.
