MASERU — All Basotho Convention (ABC) leader Thomas Thabane has urged his supporters to work hard to ensure the party wins this year’s general election.
Thabane said this while opening the party’s two-day annual general conference at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Friday.
The conference’s main agenda was to spruce up its 2012 manifesto and prepare for the upcoming election.
The conference also sought to finalise amendments to the ABC constitution.
Thabane said the party’s manifesto, which borrowed heavily from that of 2007, would be available soon.
“Our previous manifesto bore us fruits due to its success and it was a record in Africa,” he said.
When the manifesto was written it took into account conditions prevailing in the country at the time.
Thabane also took the time to preach the gospel of working together and forgiveness.
“Please forgive me for any inconvenience that I might have done in the past few years. I have failed many people so have you, so let us forgive one another,” he said.
“My intention is to knock on the hearts of the party supporters and ask them to rally behind so that we win this election.”
Thabane said if the ABC wins, it will strive to create an economy where there is no discrimination.
The ABC was known for its clean record as a disciplined and passionate party and supporters should work to keep it that way.
Thabane blasted parliament for refusing to recognise him as the official leader of the opposition in the august house.
“The cruelty of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy denied me this although the constitution provided for that,” he said.
“This unlucky parliament is soon going to be abolished for good”.
“The parliament had also failed to follow democracy principles.”
