MASERU — A 31-year-old Mabathoana High School teacher has appeared in the Maseru Magistrates’ Court charged with murder and the illegal possession of a firearm.
Rethabile Mphahama from Ha-Paki in Mazenod appeared before Magistrate Masupha Kao on Tuesday charged with the murder of a senior police officer at a Maseru lodge last Sunday.
Mphahama, who entered a plea of not guilty, allegedly killed Superintendent Tanki Bulane after he caught the policeman in bed with his wife at a guest lodge in Maseru.
According to the prosecutor, Qinumutsi Tshabalala, the accused — a former member of the Lesotho Defence Force — pumped more than 10 bullets into Bulane, killing him instantly.
He allegedly used a 9mm pistol belonging to his wife who is an instructor at Police Training College in Maseru.
Mphahama was remanded in custody and will be back in the Maseru Magistrates’ Court on January 26.
He is also being charged with the illegal possession of a firearm.
