MASERU — The Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) will go into camp next month to prepare for the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers which start in January.
The Olympics will run from July 17 to August 12 next year.
LTA first vice-president, Mojalefa ’Mefane, told the Sunday Express on Friday that the four-member team representing Lesotho in the qualifying matches will begin camp in mid-November.
“The team is currently training but it’s not intensive because they are still on a break after the All Africa Games in Mozambique,” ’Mefane said.
“We are planning that they should start an intensive training camp mid-November for the Olympic Games qualifying matches in January next year.”
’Mefane said they were planning to send four players for the qualifiers in January.
“Should funds permit, we are going to send four players to the qualifying games — two female and two male. But if things do not go as planned, we will only send two,” he said.
The team would be selected based on the individual’s recent international performances as well as current form.
In 2004 and 2000, Lineo Mochesane, Mokete Mokhosi and Likeleli Thamae qualified for the games but failed to win any medals, a situation ’Mefane said they were working hard to change.
“Our vision is to make sure that we win a medal at the Olympic Games and we are working on that,” he said.
