Sun International on Thursday celebrated the opening of the 2014 Federation of International Football
Associations (Fifa) World Cup in style.

The hotel group — which operates the Lesotho Sun and Maseru Sun hotels and Casino — celebrated the first day of the global football showcase with a Corporate World Cup Fan Park launch at Maseru Sun.

Ten companies were represented at the launch, with the delegates taking part in a 2014 Fifa World Cup play-station game, table soccer and shooting penalties at miniature goalposts before watching the opening match of the tournament featuring hosts Brazil and Croatia.

Brazil won the match 3-1, and the tournament is set to end on 13 July.

Sun International Lesotho Sales Executive, Mokebisa Lazaro, said the event was meant to get the business world together and provide staff from different companies with a platform to build sustainable relations, while also having fun.
“We have invited companies to send their employees to this event. The aim was to help them interact with each other and form sustainable relations, while they are also having fun,” Mr Lazaro said.

He further said the “fan park” at the hotel would only be open for Friday matches and the final on 13 July.
“We will only be open for Friday matches and the closing match of the tournament. We will also offer specials on drinks during that time of the matches,” said Mr Lazaro.

Metropolitan Lesotho Marketing and Communications Consultant, Tšokolo Makeka, who attended the event with
his colleagues, hailed the initiative.
“This is a very welcome initiative for us since we are in the offices most of the time. Such events help us relax and go back to the office rejuvenated.

“We also feel connected with the whole world now, without thinking about work, but enjoying ourselves. Such events also highlight that we are not enemies but only competitors when it comes to work. That is why you see us enjoying together with staff from companies that sell the same product as us.”
