Sports Commission set to hold elections

Pascalinah Kabi MASERU — The Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) will hold its executive committee elections on January 12. The commission’s spokesperson, Jobo Raswoko, told the Sunday Express on Friday the decision to call elections in January was taken on Thursday.
“Yesterday, the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission in its sitting, took a decision that the current committee’s tenure will end by January 2012. “The elections will be held on January 12, 2013,” Raswoko said. He said the commission was already preparing to notify all member associations about the polls.
“Member associations will be notified to nominate people who will stand for elections as well as those that would be casting their votes on behalf of such member associations,” Raswoko said. He said the current committee was proud to be associated with the soon-to-be-established Lesotho Anti-doping Agency as well as the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lesotho.
“There was a lot of groundwork to be done before the establishment of these two important departments and we needed more time to do it,” Raswoko said.
“The groundwork has been laid and the soon-to-be-elected committee will continue with plans to establish the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lesotho as well as the Anti-doping Agency in Lesotho.”
He said the current committee had also managed to establish a development office within the commission as well as setting up the LSRC’s website since taking over four years ago.
Raswoko however said his committee regretted failing to resolve the perennial infighting within the Lesotho Boxing Association (Laba).
Meanwhile, Raswoko said they are also planning to hold an extra-ordinary general meeting on January 6 to appoint the commission’s auditor for the next financial year.
“The purpose of the meeting is for member associations to appoint the auditor for the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission for the next financial year starting April 1, 2013,” Raswoko said.
“The other purpose of the meeting is to accept the amendments of the constitution as the circular notice for member associations to submit proposed amendments will be issued six weeks prior to the meeting,” he said.
