THE So Chef! project will return to Maseru from Tuesday to Saturday, with French chefs Marie Wucher and Cyril Bonnard expected in the country this week conduct culinary workshops and create gastronomic treats for foodies.
Co-organised by the French Institute of South Africa and the Alliance Française network, So Chef! offers a varied programme of workshops and a four-handed gastronomic dinner – in which two chefs prepare one menu.
The duo, who are originally from Alsace in eastern France, will be hosted by Alliance Francaise for the third edition of the annual food celebration week.
Marie Wucher is an established chef who specialises in pastry. She has travelled the world to gain more experience including in Japan at Freddy Schmitt’s (also a chef from Alsace) restaurant. She has also been to the United States of America where she met Cyril Bonnard while working at Joël Robuchon’s restaurant in Las Vegas.
Bonnard has a rich culinary heritage which provided him with both the passion and the skills to become sous-chef at the restaurant Joël Robuchon in Las Vegas, chef de cuisine at the Zest restaurant and at the gourmet restaurant in Dubai.
Together they settled in Dubaï as chefs at the One&Only restaurant in the The Palm Hotel managed by renowned chef Yannick Alléno.
In last year’s edition, Chef Yoric Tieche from Hotel Belles Rives in France and Ima Setipa of Primi Piatti restaurant at Maseru Mall worked together on a four-handed gastronomic dinner. Tieche also held cooking lessons for American International School and Maseru High School students during his visit.
In this edition, the visiting chefs will take part in the culinary experiences in four hotels — Mpilo Boutique, AVANI Lesotho, Lancer’s Inn and Restaurant No.7 — two schools — American International School and Mosh School of Baking — as well as Ladybrand Cooking Club.
There will be a six-hand French Dinner at Lancer’s Inn on Thursday night with the French duo collaborating with a local chef.
The trio will have another unique event where they will create international standard cakes and tea at AVANI Lesotho on Friday night.
