WOMEN’S Super League (WSL) champions, LDF, last week received a shot in the arm from Minet Insurance Company.
The donation came in the form of sports shorts and flip flops and was handed over to army commander Lieutenant-General Mojalefa Letsoela at Ratjomose Barracks.
LDF will represent Lesotho in the inaugural COSAFA Women’s Champions’ League net month.
Minet chief executive officer (CEO) Retšelisitsoe Leboela said the donation was in response to Lt-Gen Letsoela’s call for assistance.
“We received a letter from the commander requesting assistance, which we are providing without hesitation because of our sturdy relationship with the LDF,” Leboela said.
He said they were excited to partner with LDF in assisting women in sports.
“Under our Minet Foundation, we support women and youth empowerment through sports, therefore, we found it easy to extend our support. We value such initiatives,” Leboela said.
Although this was the first time for Minet to assist the LDF ladies’ team, the company has previously assisted other LDF sporting activities. He encouraged the team to work hard and make the LDF and the nation proud.
For his part, Lt-Gen Letsoela said that he was grateful for the donation.
“As the LDF, we appreciate this support. We have a long-standing relationship and we are hoping that it continues to grow in the future. What you have done is commendable because by supporting LDF, you have indirectly supported the nation.
“Despite the hardships and financial challenges brought by Covid-19, there are activities that must remain active and sport is one them. This kind of support during these difficult times will enable sporting activities continue,” Lt-Gen Letsoela said.
He said the LDF is also aiming for gender mainstreaming in all its departments, therefore, it is imperative for the ladies’ team to get support.
He also encouraged the team to perform and honour the support rendered by Minet.
“I am not expecting to hear of a defeat and I am looking forward to positive news. I will be updating Minet on the team’s performance only if the team wins,” Lt-Gen Letsoela said.
Meanwhile, the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has also pledged to support the team in its preparations for the COSAFA Women’s Champions League.
