A serial thief who broke into four different homes in Leribe and stole household goods whose value was not disclosed, was sentenced to four years in jail on Monday.
According to the police, Malefetsane Moliboea (19) of Khanyane in Leribe, was convicted of housebreaking and theft when he appeared at the Leribe Magistrate’s Court.
Among the items he stole were clothing, decoders and iron rods.
“Moliboea was found guilty on four counts. In the first charge, he was sentenced to one year in jail with an option to pay a fine of M2000. On the second count, he was sentenced to 18 months in jail and given an option to pay a fine of M3000. On the third charge, he was sentenced to six months in jail and given an option to pay a fine of M1000, and for the last charge, he was sentenced to one year in jail with an option of paying a M2000 fine,” the police said in a statement released on Thursday.
However, Moliboea could not pay the fine, resulting in his incarceration, the police added.
Meanwhile, Francis Joel (40) and Tšeliso Mohlakoane (37) appeared before the Leribe Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing car-theft charges.
They were each released on M500 bail, and are set to appear in the same court again on 11 May.
